Gears of War: OC David Karrde

Originally David joined up with intention to serve as a Gear, but after training, his Father pulled some strings he had from his own army days, to get David into the Onyx Guard to keep him out of immediate danger. 
Though he was grateful for the position, David always felt somewhat cheated out of the chance to make a difference on the front lines.
So when his chance came on E-Day he took it.

His Onyx Guard unit had been ordered to protect an outlying perimeter for the evacuation of COG VIP'S. But when they picked up an SOS from some cut off Civi's in danger. he could't stand by at let them rot. the officials where more than adequately protected even without them, their presents was mealy a formality for the benefit of their peace of mind anyway.
So with that logic he convinced his unit to mount a rescue and bring them in for extraction.
They succeed and the officials making it out as well.
Upon his return to base however he was summoned by his C.O. As he was required of him he complied, prepared for either disciplinary action, or a pat on the back. What he received was neither... 

As it turned out his Altruism could not have happened at a worse time, as his Commander had become mentally unhinged from the horrors of E-Day and only the certainty of his command was in fact, holding the last shred of his sanity together. Karrde's abandoning of his post in spite of his orders had caused the Commanders mind to finally snap.
He accused the well meaning Onyx Guard of subverting his authority, of deliberately trying to sabotage him. Even going as far as to claim that he was conspiring with the Locust. Rambling that David abandoning his post was to give them the perfect opening for an attack, despite nothing of the sort actually happening.  
When David pointed this simple fact out to him, his C.O attack him in a rage, smashing a bottle across his face, and taking out Karrde's right eye in the process.

In the struggle, Karrde managed to hold him off long enough to allow base security to break in a subdue the deranged Commander.  

Afterwords when Karrde was patched up, he gave his report of the events, the fallout of which caused him to be "transferred" to the regular Military some time after loosing his Sargent rank as well.
Which was fine with him having already lost faith in the Onyx Guard, for reasons that where self explanatory. Yet despite no longer serving in the Guard he was -at least officially- still in the organisation allowing to keep his armour. Where the difference between him, and the regular Guard was made apparent by the ware, and dents, that soon adored his metallic shell, informing any Gears who may think him just as idle as the rest of Guard, how wrong they are.

Soon he was sent to Omega Squad, where he became soon became squad mates with Drasha Lenzt along with Peter McNeil under the Command of Alexis Black, and has been with them ever since.
